Life After Huffy |
| | |
Less than two years ago, nearly 1,000 people lost their jobs at the Huffy Bicycle plant in Celina, Ohio. Huffy was the biggest employer in the county. But in August of 1998, Huffy management suddenly announced that they couldn’t compete with imported Chinese bicycles. They closed the plant and forever changed the landscape of the western Ohio town of about 10,000. Two summers later, many former Huffy workers say while they may not be making as much money as they once did, their quality of life has risen.
Listen as NPR's John Ydstie explores life after Huffy in Celina, Ohio.
