Collaborators
Beginning in January 1999, NPR's ® All Things Considered began broadcasting Lost & Found Sound, a special year long series of richly layered stories that chronicle, reflect and celebrate the changing century through sound.
Lost & Found Sound is a national collaboration of radio producers, artists, journalists, sound collectors, film sound designers, public radio listeners and NPR.
Lost & Found Sound is being produced in the spirit of
such historic collaborative efforts as "The Family of Man"
and the photographic essays and writings of the FSA and WPA.
Executive Producers,
Davia Nelson & Nikki Silva, The Kitchen Sisters and Jay
Allison, will oversee this millennial collaboration and work with
the nation's finest radio producers, creative artists, National Public
Radio, individual stations and listeners to create an imaginative series
that explores the changing century through sound. Academy Award winning
film sound designer Randy Thom (Contact, The Right Stuff, Forrest Gump, Wild at Heart)
will act as the Series Sound Designer.
The Kitchen Sisters have been producing radio programs together since
1979. Their works have been featured on All Things Considered,
Morning Edition, Soundprint, The Sunday Show, Radio Smithsonian, and
California Public Radio. They have received program awards from CPB
and NFCB. CPB's Edward R. Murrow Broadcast Award winner, Jay
Allison has created more than 200 radio pieces and special series
for National Public Radio and throughout the Public Radio system and is
also a contributing producer to ABC's Nightline. He has received
two Peabody Awards, six Ohio State Awards and nearly every other honor
in broadcast journalism.
