Trombonist Bill Watrous
"The trombone played properly can be very, very expressive and extremely moving."
   -- Bill Watrous
For this edition of Billy Taylor's Jazz at the Kennedy Center, virtuosity is in the house as Dr. Taylor is joined by the warm, buttery and gifted trombone of Bill Watrous. Watrous knows his way around the trombone to such an extent and has achieved such a high level of excellence that Dr. Taylor enthusiastically declares "When Bill Watrous plays a tune his trombone has all the subtle nuances of the human voice." Among the show's musical gems performed by Bill Watrous with the Dr. Taylor's Trio are Benny Goodman's theme "Goodbye" (performed in loving memory of Watrous' dad), "They Can't Take That Away From Me," and the uptempo Ray Noble classic "Cherokee."
